For a ginger with Irish heritage a trip to Ireland is the dream. So in the summer of 2016 I booked my trip to Ireland. Luckily I already had my passport so I was ready to go but the wait was killer. I’d never been out of the country before and the friend I went with had never been on a plane so we were both a bit terrified!

We booked the trip via LivingSocial and I would definitely recommend it. We did have some hiccups in the trip but I’m going to go into one now. For those of you that haven’t rented a car before, it can be almost like a hidden cost. Neither my friend and I were 25 at the time so it was an extra cost to rent a car and then on top of that it was more to have more than one driver so we just had her drive. All of that might not be a surprise for you but neither of us had rented a car before so it would have been nice to know ahead of time.

So I’ll go through the trip itself. It was the longest flight I’d ever been on at the time but now I wouldn’t even consider it a long flight. Luckily it was pretty uneventful and overall a smooth trip. It was a great first international flight! The hardest part of the trip was the journey to the airport. Lots of the pre-planned trips like what we did will specify the airports you can fly out of at the discounted price. We had about a 5 or 6 hour drive before we got to the airport and then a direct flight to Dublin. The flight was only 7 or 8 hours if I remember correctly and getting through customs was fairly easy.

The trip was honestly amazing and I’ll go into this in future posts. Overall getting there was so easy and luckily airport employees are generally helpful so if you get turned around you can always ask someone. Following the signs and prompts though should keep you in the clear for the most part even if your navigational skills leave something to be desired. Other than staying with family overseas you really can’t beat the price of doing a trip through LivingSocial or Groupon. If you’re looking for something spur of the moment then this is for you. Most of the trips have a pretty quick turn around time of when you have to book your trip. We luckily had six months to between the time we purchased the trip and actually left for it. A lot of the trips will want you to use it around around three months or so after purchase and you’ll have some dates that will be blacked out. This option is perfect for people that are flexible on when they go and are on a budget! So that’s it for this one. Mostly informational I know but I’ll update more on the trip itself later.

Sincerely Yours,
